Anti-Aging

Why Wrinkles Are Form?
Ageing is the most obvious cause of wrinkles. As we get older, our cells take longer to regenerate and our dermis (the inner skin) starts to thin. With age, we also produce less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, natural substances that give our skin the structure, stretch, volume and bounce it needs to remain youthful.
But that’s not all. The skin’s ability to hold moisture diminishes. What happens then is that the skin becomes dry and scaly, loses its elasticity, sags and forms furrows and wrinkles.
How Wrinkles Form?
Persistent small muscle contractions, which happen when our faces form expressions, cause wrinkles and expression lines to form. Of course, the older we get, the more deeply ingrained in our skin these lines are. But did you know that prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun (photoageing) is a big cause of premature ageing? Cigarette smoke and pollution also hasten the ageing process by producing free radicals which attack the skin. Rapid weight loss is also a cause of wrinkles as the volume of fat cells that cushion the face is drastically reduced. This causes the skin to sag.
Uneven skin texture, sunspots, blotchiness, fine lines and wrinkles are usually the early signs of aging. Generally the first line of defense when tackling the early signs of aging includes non-prescription skin creams and lotions with anti aging ingredients and these products typically contain antioxidants – substances that speed up cell turnover and increase collagen production.
Defense anti aging with antioxidants
- Vitamin A.
Widely used as antioxidant in skin care products which proven effective in treating the signs of photo aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, sunspots and uneven skin texture.
- Vitamin C.
Considered a potent antioxidant for skin. It is essential for the production of collagen and wound healing. I t plays an important role in making the skin smooth and soft.
- Copper peptides.
A relatively new entry in the anti aging arena, copper peptides are antioxidants that play a part in collagen synthesis. Studies have shown that products containing this substance help produce new collagen, which in turn improved fine lines and wrinkles as well as overall skin firmness and appearance. Skin thickness was also improved.
Natural moisturizing factor
Other typical ingredients in anti aging skin creams and lotions include products that help hold moisture in the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, which improves the appearance of the skin and makes fine lines look less noticeable.
With consistent use, these products will restore some elasticity to the skin and reduce the appearance of superficial lines and wrinkles.
Expectations
However, they won’t work miracles, nor will they attack deeper lines and wrinkles. For this, more powerful products and procedures are necessary.
Aging Process

How we age is dependent on two factors :
lifestyle and genes. If your parents aged well, then you will probably carry on looking good for a long time too. But how we live, even where we live, can also have a major impact on how we age. Here’s how some lifestyle factors can add years, even decades, to our faces :-
Sun bedding - add 20 years!According to an increasing number of dermatologists, sunbeds are even damaging to the skin than direct sunlight, because they emit pure UVA rays, which penetrate deep into the skin, causing long-term damage. Avoid entirely.
Sun Exposure - add 10 years! Sunlight creates free radicals that break down the lipids in the cell walls, leading to water loss, inflammation and sun damage. It also damages the genetic material in the developing cells, creating sun spots, some of which (over-exposure) will progress to skin cancer.
Severe stress - add 10 years! Although stress may not show up on your skin but it creates free radicals which can lead to premature aging. Try to reduce stress by finding new ways to relax and slow down.
Excessive alcohol -add 10 years! Drinking causes skin to get dehydrated and effects greatly through malnutrition. Alcohol depletes the body of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A which contains antioxidants that help the skin look and feel healthy.
Excessive caffeine consumption -add 2 years! Too much caffeine can cause the skin to get dehydrated. Other effects of caffeine that may indirectly link to skin aging are insomnia, anxiety and depression.
Sleep deprivation -add 5 years! Insomnia, lack of sleep or missed sleep may lead to obesity and premature aging. Sleep is necessary for our bodies to build up energy reserves and regenerates body cells and tissues.
Crash dieting -add 10 years! Yo-yo dieting deprives your skin of vital nutrients. If you loose weight quickly, your skin will also stretch and sag.
Malnutrition -add 5 years! If a nutrition-poor diet, especially one lacking in vitamins A, C, E and folic acid yet high in fat and salt. Many vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids only come from food. So no skin care product can replace them.
City Life - add 5 years! The urban pollution has the capabilities of damaging the skin’s protective film, producing cell-aging and triggering free radicals. Try a skin cream rich in antioxidants to clear up the damage.
Cigarette smoke -add 10 years! Cigarette smoke (inhaled or secondhand) speeds up skin aging. It creates free radicals that can damage cell DNA and reduces the absorption of vitamin C which is a vital antioxidant for healthy skin.
